No. Every colour is a separate cartridge, so you replace only what has run out. Buying a full set at once usually costs less per cartridge if you need more than one anyway.

Take it out and wipe the copper chip with a dry lint-free cloth, then refit firmly until it clicks. A poor contact is the usual cause. If it persists, switch the printer off at the mains for a minute so it re-reads the slots on startup.
